Frequently Asked Questions

  • If your two-year-old doesn’t use 50-100 words, isn’t using simple two-word phrases like “Go bye-bye”, “More milk,” or if they are not understood at least 50% of the time by strangers, this could be a sign of a language delay.

Similarly, if your three-year-old doesn’t have a vocabulary of 500-1000 words, isn’t combining three words in sentences, or if your child is not understood at least 75% of the time by strangers, this could be a sign of a delay.

In children older than three, signs like getting stuck or repeating parts of words (stuttering), having difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, isn’t using pronouns or age-appropriate grammar, is having trouble telling stories or recounting their day, or having difficulty following instructions or answering questions could also indicate a delay.

Every child is different, but difficulty in any of these areas may indicate a need for further evaluation or speech therapy. One thing to watch out for at any age is whether your child becomes frustrated when they aren’t understood by family, friends, or strangers.

If you have any concerns about your child’s language development, please contact us. We offer free consultations and are happy to answer all your speech- and language-related questions.

  • Yes! Our adult patients typically fall into three categories:

    1. Adults often seek speech and language therapy for trouble saying certain sounds, such as a lisp or trouble saying the “r” sound. Adults who stutter or have difficulty being understood due to physical or conditions can also benefit from specialized intervention to manage and enhance their communication.

    2. We offer accent modification therapy for non-native English speakers, to aid in clearer communication, especially if others struggle to understand due to their accent. Accent modification also caters to those wanting others to focus more on the content of their speech rather than being distracted by the way they pronounce words or speak with an accent.

    3. Corporate speech training helps our clients overcome public speaking fears, issues with breath control during presentations, difficulties being heard in noisy environments, and the refinement of professional pitch and intonation, ensuring effective and confident communication in professional settings.

  • School based therapy is often conducted in a group setting, where children with diverse communication needs may work together. We provide individualized, one-on-one therapy so your child works on exactly what they are struggling with.

At school, your child might be pulled out of their classroom for their speech therapy sessions, but private speech therapy works around your child's schedule, so they won't miss anything during their school day.

Sometimes, it's hard for school speech therapists to keep parents updated on what their child is doing in therapy or how to help at home. We encourage parents to join in during our sessions to understand how best to support their child at home. When parents are involved during therapy, it makes it easier for kids to continue making progress outside of our clinic.

In addition to one-on-one therapy, we also provide families with exercises to do at home that are fun and help accelerate your child’s progress toward their communication goals.

  • All of our patients receive individualized speech and language therapy customized for their specific needs and goals. Cost varies accordingly. Speech Specialists will not bill directly to health insurance. However, service fees are reimbursable by many health insurance plans. The amount of coverage will depend on your individual plan. Please contact your insurance company directly to determine reimbursement rates.

Even if services are not covered by your healthcare provider, speech and language therapy is usually eligible for reimbursement through Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.

Payment can be made prior to each session by cash, check, or credit card. A receipt will be issued after payment that can be submitted for reimbursement through your health plan.
